It seems that artists I like are on fire at the moment when it comes to delivering amazing videos to accompany their music. After Martyn and his short film, it's time for dubstep-not-dubstep-whatever-you-wanna-call-it wonderboy James Blake to step up with nothing less than an sonic and visual masterpiece.
Not to be mistaken with the American tennis player, this young British musician (22 years only!) has been making a lot of noise on the dubstep scene since his first 12" was released last year on Untold's Hemlock label. At the time, when I first heard Air & Lack Thereof, I was instantly hooked. This powerful yet subtle dubstep piece had it all: an enormous bass line and drumkit, superb reverb effects, freaky and funky synths all tied together by a melancholic melody which made it highly addictive. It was soon followed by a mindblowing remix of Untold's Stop What You're Doing and some crazy covers of Destiny's Child and Lil' Wayne (!!!) under the Harmonimix moniker.
Earlier on this year, James blessed us with the smashing CMYK EP on R&S, showing all his diversity and talent on 4 tracks which ranged from dubstep to garage and downtempo, all with this minimalistic touch and experimental twist that he's been renowned for, and finally here's this Limit to Your Love track for which he's recently uploaded a video on Youtube.
Covering a Feist track (which I didn't know of), James proves once again that the range of his abilities is as wide as his music is difficult to categorize: this time we discover that behind all the twisting effects that he usually applies to his voice, lies an amazing and fragile pitch perfectly fitting the melancholic vibe of the track. With this young guy, every new record is a discovery, the constant between them being beauty. And what can be said about the video clip? Directed by Martin De Thurah, it is just as magnificent as the music is. Just watch out when the bass comes in ;-)
Limit To Your Love is supposedly the first single to be taken off James' first album. Can't wait to hear more! In the meantime, let's enjoy this video...

Superbe... Merci pour cette découverte.
